Part of a strategy to improve patient experience, two unique interactive spaces were integrated into new hospitals in central California.
From the windows of this treehouse, the many landscapes of California can be enjoyed. Each window features an old fruit crate with a touchscreen: add colours and patterns to a variety of animals and add them to the scene outside or guide a family and pets into a hot air balloon and launch it into the air. This engaging place gives kids a fun spot to hang out during their hospital visit.
Role — Concept ideation, UX/UI design, illustration
Hardware — 19" Touchscreens, projectors
Studio — NGX Interactive, Aesthetics Inc.
I was involved from the conceptual stages to project completion, creating the UX documentation, user interface, and illustration system.
Each kiosk was coloured to match the landscape seen out the window.
The user interface intentionally has no text so that a language selection would not be needed, which was a fun challenge.
The California landscape is a fantastical animated version of the Golden State that reacts to the presence of visitors. A variety of reactions occur as visitors get close — small, like carrots growing, or big like a whale leaping from the water. The result is a beautiful scene to both observe and change with one's presence.
Role — UX strategy
Hardware — Display screen wall, Intel RealSense
Studio — NGX Interactive, Aesthetics Inc.
Awards — Horizon Award (Gold in Kiosk / Public Exhibit / Museum category), Summit Emerging Media Award (Bronze)
I was involved primarily in the earlier stages of this project, working on the overall concept and UX documentation.
